How To Touch a Dragonfly

“How to touch a dragonfly” is an installation designed for artist Kat Austen which lets the audience see the world from the point of view of dragonflies. A work that brings attention to the decline in population due to environmental transformations of local varieties of dragonflies that used to be a familiar sight, inviting us to reflect on our connection to nature. Consisting of about 5200 individual hexagonal pieces of traditional Korean mulberry paper, with a matching structure of aluminum creating a dome reminiscent of a dragonfly’s eye. The paper acts as diffusing pixels for the LEDs which play back a 360 video of dragonflies recorded in the field by the artist.

Exhibited at Zer01ne day in Seoul, Korea, Oct 2023.
